What’s covered
One core cover. The rest, you choose.
- Public and Products LiabilityThe core of the policy, always included — limits of £1m, £2m or £5m. Injury to other people or damage to their property caused by your work or your products.
Public and Products Liability is the only standard section of Complete Contractor. Everything below is optional — you build the policy around how you actually work.

Section 6 — part of this policy
Commercial Legal Expenses.
An optional section of Complete Contractor — not a separate product. Up to £250,000 per claim and £1,000,000 a year, with the Lawphone legal helpline, Markel tax advice, Allianz Legal Online document templates and DWF undisputed debt recovery. Add it at quote.
What you get
Employment disputes, HMRC investigations, contract and property disputes — legal costs and representation, plus the helplines and document templates from day one.
One condition worth knowing
For employment claims you must have called Lawphone and followed their advice before dismissing anyone or making significant changes to employment contracts. Skip that step and an employment claim may not be covered.
Main business policy not with us? Our standalone Commercial Legal Expenses product is for businesses insured elsewhere.
What’s not covered
The fair-warning list.
Complete Contractor is built for mainstream trades, and the exclusions reflect that. The big ones are below — your policy wording sets out the full detail, so please read it.
- Work above 15 metres — external or internal
- Excavations deeper than 2 metres
- Demolition, except low-level or incidental work as set out in the wording
- Explosives, tunnelling, piling and underpinning
- Quarrying, blasting and diving
- Work on railways, motorways, bridges, power stations, docks, mines and similar high-hazard sites
- Conditions that void cover if breached
- These are conditions, not exclusions — breach one and a related claim can be declined. Bona fide subcontractors must hold their own employers’ liability and at least £1m public liability. The fire precautions condition applies whenever heat equipment or angle grinders are used. The underground services condition must be met before any digging. Tools theft-from-vehicle cover requires the vehicle locked with keys removed, or the tools in a securely locked building between 9pm and 6am.
- Key per-section exclusions
- Public liability excludes injury to your own employees (that is what employers’ liability is for), damage to property in your charge, the cost of redoing defective work, and professional advice or design provided for a fee. Tools excludes wear and tear and unexplained disappearance. Manual work outside the UK and EU is not covered. Cyber and data events are excluded across the whole policy — there is no cyber option on Complete Contractor.
This is a summary. Your policy wording (Complete Contractor) sets out the full list of exclusions and conditions — please read it.

- Your schedule is the source of truthThe excesses above are the standard figures — your policy schedule confirms exactly what applies to your cover.
